The Antwerp Central Station building is located on Queen Astrid Square (Koningin Astridplein). The first station building was wooden and appeared here in 1836, when the Antwerp-Mechelen railway line was opened. In 1854, a second wooden station of larger dimensions was built. In 1899, construction began on the third, modern building, which lasted six years. The author of the original project was the architect Louis Delacenserie, the opening of Antwerp-Central took place in 1905.

The large central dome is 75 meters high. The vault over the railway tracks reaches 43 meters in height, its length is 186 meters. It is made of glass and iron. The interior of the station is decorated with twenty types of marble and can be compared in its beauty to a palace.

Beginning in the mid-20th century, the station building special database began to fall into disrepair. Antwerp-Centraal was declared an architectural monument and its restoration began in 1998. Previously dismantled elements were restored, the interior and façade of the building were restored. A two-track tunnel was built, connecting the station with the northern part of the city, and a new entrance to the platforms was built from Kiewitstraat.
