If you have started the process to apply for a residence permit, long or short term, or you have started the process to apply for nationality, or you have applied for the NIE, a renewal, etc.; one of your interests will be to know the status of your file.
We will explain the different ways you can check information about the status of your immigration file or carry out any procedure related to it.
How to consult and process the immigration file
Nowadays, if you want to consult or process an immigration file, it is not necessary usa number list to travel or do it in person since it can be done online . That is, from the comfort of your own home on a Sunday afternoon you can check the progress of your file.
Remember that this is a free procedure . However, you must have or know the immigration file number in order to make any enquiries.
By text message : you must send an SMS to the following number: 638 44 41 11 and include either the NIE or the word EXPE and the number of the file you want to consult.
By phone : you must call 902 02 22 22 and provide the file number.
Online: done through the Electronic Headquarters of Public Administrations page .
The information provided through any of these channels is merely informative , that is, the information you see on the status of your file is not an official resolution nor does it serve for notification purposes.
Status of the immigration file
If you use any of the methods we have indicated above to consult or process the file, you may encounter the following statuses :
In process
Resolved favorably or not favorably
In the process of appeal
Filed

Status: in process
This "status" appears at the beginning, that is, when you have submitted all the documentation required to start a certain file, the Administration has to check the documentation and begin to study the case.
This is the processing phase that leads to the resolution of the file (provided you do not have to be summoned); it usually lasts about 3 to 6 months.
Resolved
Once the processing phase is completed, the file is resolved, which can end in two ways:
Favorable resolution : in this case your application has been approved, that is, if you have requested residency, it has been granted to you. Remember that you must receive the official resolution by post and from that moment on you will be deemed to have been notified.
Unfavorable decision : the Administration has decided to deny your application. It has been rejected. When the decision arrives at your home, the period for you to appeal will begin to run.
In the process of appeal
If you have been notified of the decision as unfavorable, you can appeal against it. Once you file the corresponding appeal, the Administration has a period of time to examine it and resolve it, hence the status of your application is: in the process of appeal .
Filed
If you check your file and see this status, it means that the Administration has required you within a certain period of time to provide documentation or to clarify some point of your application and said requirement has not been met.
